Sustainable Land Management and Climate Change Adaptation for Small-Scale Land Users in Sub-Saharan Africa

چکیده
Land is both a source and sink of carbon dioxide (CO2), the chief greenhouse gas. Through sustainable land management (SLM), it can capture extra CO2 store as in vegetation soil. SLM also reduce emissions from land. Thus, viewed key land-based solution for climate change mitigation. Yet, provides effective (CC) adaptation practices—such agroforestry, mulching water harvesting—which confer resilience, simultaneously help secure production. This especially valuable users sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) who depend on rainfed agriculture. They are amongst poorest Earth most vulnerable to CC impacts, despite their minimal footprint. The World Overview Conservation Approaches Technologies (WOCAT) manages Global Database: this holds rich ever-growing collection practices. Analysis database SSA sheds light which technologies adaptation, how well they cope with changing rainfall temperature. Both “mechanisms” “attributes” explored, yielding new insights. perspective paper showcases current developments field, summarizes future directions SSA.

Land cover and tsetse fly distributions in sub-Saharan Africa.
This study aims to provide trypanosomiasis-affected countries with standardized datasets and methodologies for mapping the habitat of the tsetse fly (Glossina spp., the disease vector) by customizing and integrating state-of-the-art land cover maps on different spatial scales. Using a combination of inductive and deductive approaches, land cover and fly distribution maps are analysed in a geogr...
متن کاملLivestock, Land Use and Agricultural Intensification in Sub-saharan Africa
This paper focuses on extracts from a recent comparative analysis of livestock and land use surveys across a range of agro-climatic conditions in sub-Saharan Africa, based on information from systematic low level aerial reconnaissance and complementary ground studies in Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Sudan and Tchad, between 1980 and 1993. Results indicate a highly significant relationship between lives...
متن کاملSmallholders’ land access in Sub-Saharan Africa: A new landscape?
While scholars long recognized the importance of land markets as a key driver of rural non-farm development and transformation in rural areas, evidence on the extent of their operation and the nature of participants remains limited. We use household data from 6 countries to show that there is great potential for such markets to increase productivity and equalize factor ratios. While rental mark...

An epidemiological cross sectional study was undertaken in Yaoundé in 2002 and updated in 2005. Focused on health within the city, the objectives were to measure diarrheal prevalence and to identify the risk factors associated with them. Results of microbiological examinations have revealed an urban average prevalence rate of 14.5%. Access to basic services in the living environment appears to ...
